Marraine Mentoring: Dream. Plan. Act. Achieve!

Our Team

Our team is led by Jennie LaMonte, a veteran scholar development professional who specializes in supporting young scholars as they maximize their university experiences.  While a former director of an international scholarship program, fellowships advisor, and teaching fellow, her current focus is to assist undergraduate and graduate students pursing graduate student positions, fellowships, and post-docs.  Her students include Gates, Goldwater, Marshall, Rhodes, and Truman Scholars, innumerable National Science Foundation Graduate Research and National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellows, and countless graduates at the world’s best universities.  It has been a privilege to support such a strong and talented group.  She began this kind of work while an Assistant Senior Tutor at Harvard.

Additional team members may contribute according to specialty:

Business (MBA) programs (including one-year, executive, and 2+2 opportunities)

Law, MPA & MPP professional programs

Medical, MD/PhD & Health Professions (including Vet school) application preparation

Marraine

Marraine and Parrain are French for Godmother and Godfather. Today, these words carry the connotations of patron, sponsor, or mentor.  We strive to offer support and assistance that reflects this commitment to individual success that Godparents invest in the next generation.

Contact Me

  • What does a Scholar Development professional do?
We assist students to maximize their collegiate experience and then capitalize on those accomplishments -- whether the ultimate goals are professional or graduate school, international funding programs, or summer internships.
  • When should we begin our collaboration?
While we can step up to help a potential candidate at any point in the journey, the best time to contact us is prior to or early in the first year of college -- before summer placement deadlines begin in December. Candidacy development is a long-term process, filled with its own rewards. Deriving benefit from that process is the only element that is completely within a candidate's control.
  • Can you guarantee acceptance into competitive summer placements and graduate schools?
No one can ethically offer this guarantee. Achievement is based on performance. We can help enhance performance and to present these results in ways that will resonate with selection committees. However, the substance of a candidacy is foundational to outcomes – this is the responsibility of a candidate.
